The New York Chapter of the ACS would like to make its members aware of the following educational opportunity. To register, please follow this link
This Continuing Medical Education activity provides a forum for surgeons, primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care professionals to gather and discuss the latest trends, experimental methodologies, and key equipment in the surgical field. As new surgical techniques are perfected and new equipment comes to the forefront of medical use, there is persistent need for providers to have efficient means for providing acute care, as well as long-term follow-up and management of post-surgical patients. The science of specialized surgery continues to evolve and challenges the surgical professional to stay contemporary. Therefore this symposium will review contemporary issues, research findings and new surgical strategies and trends within the last year which are essential to the local care of the surgical and post-surgical patient.
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:
1. Describe opportunities for community surgeons as leaders in healthcare
2. Discuss new techniques of endoluminal management of disease of the foregut
3. Discuss management strategies to minimize cardiovascular risk in non-cardiac surgical patients
4. Identify improvements in bloodless surgery
5. Explain the trends in periprocedural antithrombotic management for surgery
6. Describe recent advances in surgical management of breast cancer
7. Discuss current ideas of how surgical ethics impact on current surgical care
8. Explain current role of the APP in surgical practice
9. Implementing ways to improve a culture of safety in the operating room
